ECO SCHOOL PROGRAMME

Promoting Health and Hygiene: WASH in Schools Programme

Green Knowledge Foundation (GFK) prioritizes the well being of students in Delta State. Through collaborating partnerships with PIND Foundation and Hope and Dreams Initiatives, We have actively supported WASH-In-Schools programs across the region.

These programmes address a critical need by providing access to clean water, sanitation facilities, and hygiene education. Our focus extends beyond infrastructure to fostering culture of good hygiene practices amongsts students. This initiative is particularly impactful in undeserved communities, where access to these resources and education may be limited. By prioritizing WASH in schools, GFK goes beyond environmental education. We create a healthier learning environment for students, fostering improved attendance, academic performance and overall well-being. This collaborative approach strengthens the foundation of a healthy future both for individuals and their communities.

IGNITING YOUNG MINDS

Green Knowledge Foundation (GKF), in collaboration with PIND Foundation and esteemed local non-profit organizations, spearheaded the Warri STEM Summer School initiative between 2017 to 2019. This program aimed to empower secondary school students in Warri and cultivate the next generation of leaders in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields. The program curriculum provided students with a unique hands-on learning experience. Students participated in engaging workshops, learning to construct practical applications of STEM principles. These workshops covered the creation of mini turbines, biodigesters, websites, and valuable computer coding and programming skills. By fostering a spirit of exploration and discovery, the Warri STEM Summer School ignited a passion for STEM fields within these young minds. This collaborative effort empowered students with the knowledge and skills necessary to pursue future careers in STEM, driving innovation and progress for their communities.

FOSTERING COMMUNITY PRIDE: CLEAN-UP COLLABORATIONS

Green Knowledge Foundation (GKF) recognizes the importance of collaborative action in environmental stewardship. Since 2019, we have partnered with esteemed local organizations such as the Clean Warri Initiative and TIPIN to organize impactful clean-up exercises throughout Warri. These joint efforts address environmental concerns and promote a sense of community pride. The clean-up exercises directly target litter and waste accumulation, fostering a cleaner and healthier environment for all residents. Beyond the immediate impact, these collaborations inspire community members to become active participants in maintaining a sustainable Warri. GKF's commitment extends beyond one-time events. By fostering ongoing partnerships, we cultivate a culture of environmental responsibility within the community. This collaborative approach paves the way for a cleaner, healthier future for Warri.

CHAMPIONING ENVIRONMENTAL ADVOCACY: GLOBAL ACTION, LOCAL IMPACT

Green Knowledge Foundation (GKF) is a leading voice for environmental advocacy in Nigeria. We leverage internationally recognized days like World Earth Day and World Environment Day as strategic platforms to raise awareness and inspire action. Through targeted campaigns and educational initiatives, GKF utilizes these UN-approved days to engage with the Nigerian public on critical environmental issues. We advocate for sustainable practices, promote environmental responsibility, and empower citizens to become active stewards of our planet. GKF's commitment extends beyond national borders. By aligning with global environmental movements, we amplify our message and contribute to a collective effort for a healthier planet.

EMPOWERING WASTE PICKERS, PROTECTING OUR ENVIRONMENT

In 2020, Green Knowledge Foundation (GKF) recognized the critical role waste pickers play in mitigating waste pollution through recycling and material reuse. The COVID-19 pandemic significantly impacted their livelihoods, hindering their ability to collect and process recyclables. GKF responded by providing essential food items and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to formal and informal waste pickers, as well as a plastic recycler, operating in Warri, Nigeria. This support helped alleviate the economic hardship caused by the pandemic and ensured the continuity of their vital environmental service. Beyond immediate relief, GKF seized the opportunity to educate these waste pickers. The program highlighted their significant contribution to environmental protection and society as a whole. Furthermore, GKF provided training on proper waste management strategies, empowering them to further optimize their positive impact. By supporting and educating waste pickers, GKF fosters a more sustainable future for our environment and communities.
