EMPOWERING POULTRY FARMERS, BUILDING SUSTAINABLE FUTURES

Promoting Health and Hygiene: WASH in Schools Programme

Green Knowledge Foundation (GKF) is dedicated to supporting small-scale poultry farmers across the Niger Delta. We recognize their significant role in the region's food security and economic development. Our comprehensive program equips farmers with the knowledge and skills necessary to thrive. We provide in-depth training on good poultry keeping practices. This includes topics like biosecurity, disease prevention, nutrition, and proper flock management. And also empower farmers with valuable business skills like financial management, marketing strategies, and value chain optimization. By optimizing these practices, farmers can ensure the health and well-being of their birds, leading to increased productivity and profitability. Finally, GKF emphasizes the importance of climate-smart agriculture. We educate farmers on practices that minimize environmental impact while maximizing productivity. This includes water conservation techniques, sustainable waste management strategies, and the use of renewable energy sources within their poultry operations. Through this holistic approach, GKF empowers small-scale poultry farmers across the Niger Delta.

SHAPING ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY: ADVOCATING FOR A PLASTIC-FREE FUTURE

Green Knowledge Foundation (GKF) is a leading voice for impactful environmental policy change in Nigeria. In 2023, we actively engaged with the Federal Ministry on the Environment, collaborating with esteemed organizations like the Center for Earth Works and the Community Development Foundation. Through a dedicated CSO and government stakeholder meeting, GKF championed critical discussions surrounding the ongoing global plastic treaty negotiations. We emphasized the importance of these negotiations and advocated for key measures to address plastic pollution in Nigeria. These measures included: Reduced plastic production: GKF highlighted the necessity of curbing virgin plastic production to minimize environmental strain. Transparency in plastic additives: We advocated for increased transparency regarding the chemicals and additives used in plastics, promoting safer and more sustainable practices. Ban on single-use plastics: GKF strongly urged a ban on single-use plastics, a significant contributor to plastic pollution. By actively engaging with policymakers and fostering collaborative efforts, GKF works tirelessly to shape environmental policy that prioritizes a plastic-free future for Nigeria.

SPEARHEADING SOLUTIONS TO PLASTIC POLLUTION

Green Knowledge Foundation (GKF) is a leader in advocating for a plastic-free Nigeria. We take a collaborative approach, convening environmental NGOs in strategic meetings to discuss and develop solutions for ending plastic pollution. This unified effort strengthens our collective impact. Furthermore, GKF fosters productive relationships with key stakeholders. Our courtesy visits to the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency in 2020 and 2023 demonstrate our commitment to working alongside policymakers to implement effective solutions and ensure a cleaner, healthier future f

ONGOING PROJECTS

Promoting Sustainable Waste Management as Pessu Market

Green Knowledge Foundation (GKF) is proud to announce a collaborative initiative with the leadership of Pessu Market and the local government. This project focuses on developing a biodigester at the market's slaughterhouse.

Biodigester for Eco-Friendly Waste Management

The biodigester will address the critical issue of organic waste generated within the market. This innovative technology transforms organic waste into valuable resources:

Methane Gas

A clean and renewable energy source.

Compost

An eco-friendly fertilizer that nourishes the soil. The biodigester not only promotes waste reduction, but also provides sustainable solutions for energy generation and soil improvement.

Educating for a Zero-Waste Future

In conjunction with the biodigester project, GKF will launch an advocacy campaign within Pessu Market. This campaign aims to educate market traders on the principles of zero-waste practices. The initiative will highlight the importance of environmental conservation and maintaining a clean market environment.

Anti-Incineration Advocacy

Recognizing the potential drawbacks of incineration technologies for waste management, GKF is committed to responsible solutions. We will be actively engaging with the federal ministry, state government, media outlets, and local communities. Our goal is to raise awareness of the detrimental impacts associated with adopting incineration as a primary waste management strategy.

Through these efforts, GKF aims to promote sustainable practices and empower communities to embrace a cleaner and more environmentally responsible future.
